FAQ

Common questions.

What are the system requirements?
macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. Grainsmith runs as a standalone application or as a VST3, AUv3, or AAX plugin inside any modern host. About 200 MB of disk space; no GPU requirements beyond what your DAW already needs.
Which plugin formats are supported?
At launch: VST3, AUv3, and AAX on macOS, plus a standalone application. The installer lets you choose which formats to install. Windows (VST3 + standalone) is available now as a public beta. On iPad and iPhone, Grainsmith Field is available on the App Store as a separate purchase.
Is there a free demo?
Yes. Download the same installer and run it without a license. The demo is fully functional but inserts brief moments of silence at random intervals. Buy a license any time and the silence stops. Grab the demo from the Downloads page.
How does the license work?
One purchase = one license, covering macOS and Windows on up to 3 machines. Your license key arrives by email after checkout and unlocks every plugin format from one entry. All future updates to the version you bought are included. Lost your key? Use the form on the Downloads page and I’ll resend it.
What's the refund policy?
If something is broken, mis-described, or just not what you expected, email us within 30 days of purchase and we’ll refund you, no argument. The demo build exists so you can try before buying. Please do.
Which hardware controllers are supported?
monome arc, OXI E16, and Faderfox UC4 arrive with a built-in map, and any class-compliant MIDI controller can be mapped with MIDI learn. Full details in the documentation.
What about Windows and iPad?
Windows is a public beta you can download today from the Downloads page: standalone plus VST3, covered by your existing license at no extra cost. It isn’t as battle-tested as the macOS release yet. On iPad and iPhone, Grainsmith Field is available now via the App Store as a separate purchase, since Apple’s rules don’t allow license carryover from desktop sales.
How do I get updates?
Updates are free for the version you bought. You’ll get an email when a new build is ready, with a download link tied to your license. Major versions in the future may be paid upgrades. Those will be announced clearly in advance.
I think I found a bug.
Use the form above with the version number (visible in the plugin’s settings panel), your DAW and macOS version, and a short description of what you did and what happened. If you have a screen recording, attach it when you reply to the confirmation email that arrives after you submit. You can also reach me directly at support@plasticfactory.com.
